This is a truly mono-floral honey produced in the far north region of Rivera, Uruguay where large extensions of Eucalyptus Grandis also known as “Gum” where planted 25 years ago. Annually around 150.000 hives migrate to these forests to take advantage of the strong nectar flow that occurs between February and May. Eucalyptus Honey is dark amber and has an intense and persistent after taste. It crystallizes fast in small size crystals, turning to a butter consistence honey, a pale yellow colour with some green tints. It has a medium strength flavor, and a mild sweetness. Properties Eucalyptus honey is a natural antibacterial that prevents bacteria spread and even reducing bacteria numbers on the site of infection, improving wound-healing time and speeding recovery. It has a beneficial action on upper respiratory tract infections due to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, reducing bacterial load and calming inflammation and irritation, improving sore throat discomfort. It’s great for colds and flu! Due to its pollen content with immune-modulating properties, it boosts immune system activity and promotes a faster recovery. Fresh raw Eucalyptus Honey is a good source of antioxidants; protecting cells form damage and oxidative stress. This leads to its anti aging properties. Also is a good source of vitamins and minerals and some studies suggest its anticancer potential, due to tricetin, a natural flavonoid compound and Myrtaceae pollen, appear to exert anticancer activity and prevent metastasis.
Jerónimo is a young beekeeper located in the province of Rocha, Uruguay very close to the Atlantic Ocean. He is also Veterinarian and has almost 10 years in beekeeping since he moved from the capital city to the Ocean Side. During his firsts steps, he has worked hard to apply his veterinarian knowledge to the beekeeping and after a few years learning from bees, he is now dedicated entirely to beekeeping. He spends his time between the hives and surfing on the soft waves of La Paloma. The bees in Rocha are very Africanized so it is very difficult to have a friendly relation with them. Jerónimo respects that and knows how to treat them well. Most of his hives are located in very natural places, with varieties of native blossoms and cool weather thanks to the Proximity to the ocean. Despite his relatively short experience, is a serious beekeeper and always does his job with deep compromise and a smile on his face, which the bees appreciates allowing him to harvest very clean natural honey.
